About

Who you are talking to

We connect Alachua County homeowners with a vetted local deck builder, and we publish the cost, material, and permit information for this market so the conversation starts from something factual.

Deck construction is performed by independent licensed contractors we connect you with. When you call or send the quote form, your details go to one local deck company and they get in touch with you directly. There is no charge for the visit or for the quote.

Why the guides exist

Most deck advice on the internet was written for somewhere else. It assumes a frost line, a dry summer, and lumber that is not competing with subterranean termites and decay fungi in the same season. North central Florida is a different set of problems: direct sun for most of the year, a wet season with a thunderstorm most summer afternoons, sandy soil over limestone, and enough humidity that a finish on a horizontal surface has a shorter working life than the tin suggests.

So we wrote the guides for here. What each decking material does in this climate. What the framing under it needs to be rated for. Which office issues a permit depending on whether an address is inside the city or in unincorporated Alachua County. What the work costs in this market rather than nationally. And which design decisions people regret making without thinking about a July afternoon first.

How the numbers are put together

Cost figures on this site are planning ranges built from current installed pricing, and they are presented as ranges because that is what they are. The only number that means anything for a specific project is the one written down after somebody has walked the yard, looked at the wall the deck would attach to, and worked out how far the joists have to span.

Where the site states something checkable, such as which office handles permits or what the county publishes for design wind speed, it comes from the authority that publishes it. Where a figure is a general market range, the page says so.

What we do not do

We are not the contractor. We do not perform deck construction, we do not hold a construction licence, and nothing on this site should be read as an offer to build. The pages here are informational, and the connection to a local deck company is the service.
