Micanopy is an old-house town, and old houses change every part of a deck job. Floor heights are higher, so stairs and landings are part of the design rather than an afterthought. What replaces it is a moisture argument: shade means slower drying, and slower drying means more algae on the surface and more attention to airflow under the framing and clear gaps between boards.

On an older property it is worth working out what the existing structure is before adding to it. A porch that was enclosed or extended at some point in the past is often carrying more weight than the original framing was built for, and it shows up as a sag at mid-span or a dip where the addition meets the original. That is worth finding at the survey rather than after new framing has been tied into it.
